This home glistened even on a gloomy day, and it has been filed away as a great case study for how far a little bit of paint and a swap of hardware can go to give a home an entirely new lease on life. Between the hall bathroom upstairs, the colorful kids’ rooms, and the cozy snug on the lower level, it was challenging to land on a favorite detail, but I left immediately craving to take a paintbrush to my apartment so that I could give my office some bright yellow stripes. This home looks nothing like it did before, and I am so impressed by the owners’ commitment to addressing every little design detail – it is a home that is easy to love, and one that many of my buyers have resonated with.

One of the most challenging but impactful design decisions is how to use different paint colors throughout the home while still making it feel cohesive. This home is such a successful example of how to do this – each room feels like a unique chapter of one lovely story. Though I often recommend to my buyers that they spend some time in their new home before settling on paint colors, so that they can see where they spend time and how the light falls, this listing shows the impact that personality adds when it comes time to sell. In a competitive market, these design decisions can drive so much value.

I also appreciated how this home layered new furniture pieces with antiques. I noticed that antique dressers had been repurposed as bathroom vanities multiple times, and little nooks were given their own identity with the addition of a petite table and stool. With buyers, I enjoy forwarding my antiquing recommendations as they are settling in, so that they can source some of these finds on their own – the balance of old and new makes a home feel at ease, in my opinion.
