Middleburg
I seem to be in Middleburg quite often these days! And I am not complaining – it’s both a simple but glamorous corner of our world, and only about an hour’s drive from DC. I usually visit in the fall or winter, which pairs nicely with a visit to a winery and antiquing nearby, but the summer is lush and lovely. Below, some of my favorite moments to inspire your next visit.
My favorite memories
Staying at the Red Fox Inn for a night or two – dinner is always delightful, and I love their breakfast in bed
Perusing Every Little Something, Bedford Lee, Creme de la Creme, and Federal & Black for cute little things
Picking up a new read from Middleburg Books
Lunch with my friends at Tremelo
Visiting Castle Gallery, owned by my friend Catherine
Going antiquing at Middleburg Antique Gallery, The Paradise, or Baileywyck Antiques
Stopping at Oatlands Historic House & Garden nearby, then grabbing lunch at Knead with a friend of mine before heading back home.
Recommendation:
The Red Fox Inn
Every year around Christmastime, I will email The Red Fox Inn & ask, pretty please could I come for a stay?! It is a postcard-worthy escape near DC, perfectly sited on the main street of Middleburg and beautiful in any season – though the hotel does get quite dressed up for the holidays. I love having dinner at the pub before tucking in for a cozy evening, but the breakfast delivered to your hotel room in the morning is really the highlight; on my first visit it was a breakfast casserole, and I still dream about enjoying this while a morning frost formed on the windows.
Recommendations:
for shopping & antiquing
The shopkeeper scene in Middleburg is truly picking up. I am always eager to stop by Every Little Something, Bedford Lee Shop, & Federal & Black, as well as my friend Catherine’s art gallery called Castle Gallery. There’s also a Creme de la Creme that might be larger than any of the other locations, as well as the charming Middleburg Books. For antiques, Middleburg Antiques has plenty to explore, and I always add a stop by The Paradise & Baileywyck on the route back home.
