Product Review: Olive & June

I was recently gifted the Mani System from Olive & June and I want to tell you all about it! Truth be told, I am probably the last person who would spend my discretionary time indulging in this act of self-care; pre-COVID, I paid $65 each month for a professional to do it for me, so that I didn’t have to worry about it.

But, once I finally sat down to try out this kit, I genuinely enjoyed myself. I poured a generous glass of wine, lit a candle, turned on Gilmore Girls, and got to work. Who knew such a small act of kindness and stillness could bring such joy and restoration? My favorite part of this exercise was that when my nails were drying, I had no inclination to look at my phone - well, a small inclination, but I couldn’t entirely act on it. Instead I just sat there, lightly blowing on my nails while listening to the hum of Lorelai and Rory in the background. It was delightful.

The other * win * about this setup with Olive & June is “The Poppy” tool that they send with each kit. I am great at painting one hand but not the other, and yet this tool made me feel a lot less shame about my nail-painting abilities. I still had to do some touch ups after (the Mani Kit comes with tools for this step as well), but I expect that with a little practice, I’ll forget that the nail salon was ever a part of my monthly budget.

Olive & June has a bunch of fun products on their website, just in time for holiday gifting as well as a long season of “we need activities for the indoors” with a few friends. The Mani Kit makes an awesome gift, but the polishes, The Poppy, and their Top Coat will get you what you need on a budget. Here’s a #bts look at their Winter Collection!
