The Six Bells
A postcard from my visit in May 2026
The Six Bells hotel had been on my wishlist for a while, but the Hudson Valley feels just out of reach enough from DC that you really need to make a full weekend of it. When I saw the hotel was hosting a creative workshop – this one themed around dollhouse miniatures – I immediately signed up and blocked the time on my calendar. I drove up on a Friday midday, arriving around 4pm, spent Saturday learning about a new hobby I knew nothing about, and by Sunday morning I was back on my way home; in retrospect, I would have stayed just one more night, so that I could spend some time exploring the nearby town of Kingston and perhaps enjoyed a leisurely afternoon at Inness, a hotel and wellness resort nearby. But, better to leave a place eager to return again, than to leave with the feeling that you’ve seen it all.
The hotel itself was a lovely stay; the beds were supremely comfortable, and each room had such character that I really did feel visually transported to another time. It was the ideal backdrop for the weekend’s activities, and though there are a few details that I’d argue would take the experience to the next level for the price point, I’d still recommend a visit wholeheartedly. I stayed in “The Ribbon",” a space happily outfitted with a draped canopy bed, beautiful wallpaper, and a frilly pink sofa. A hotel stay always reminds me how incomplete my space back home is, and The Six Bells certainly provided some inspiration for what design projects to prioritize next!
